Solstice meditation

My Saturday morning solstice thoughts, as we share the longest night together: In my uttermost bones I know something, as do you. It is that there can be no despair when you remember why you came to Earth, who you serve, and who sent you here. The good words we say and the good deeds we do are not ours. They are the words and deeds of the One who brought us here. In that spirit, I hope you will write this on your wall: When a great ship is in harbor and moored, it is safe, there can be no doubt. But that is not what great ships are built for. (Clarissa Pinkola Estes)

The solstice is a reminder of the need for light and dark and a reminder this time of year that through the darkness, light dawns again.  Tomorrow at this time, there is more light than today. I invite you to bring in the light as you rest in the darkness.

Here is my brief meditation/intention for this evening:

Dear God, who made the stars and moon and sun, be with me today as I move towards rest in this long night.

Help me to surrender to the dark and the light parts of my life, loving each and respecting each as your will.  As I light this candle tonight, I bring my light into the world to join and other light of the world. Help me to help others as You heal me, and to remember my many blessings this day.

Thank you Lord.

Amen.
